Official Statement on the Death of Atatiana Jefferson
"We continue to be faced with the reality that too often the lives of Black and Brown people are considered expendable, and our support of Social Justice for our people is truly supporting and standing up for the protection of life."
OCTOBER 15, 2019.  The Knights of Peter Claver, Inc. Social Justice Committee stands in solidarity with the community in support of the demands for justice for Atatiana Jefferson – the 28-year-old graduate of Xavier University of Louisiana who was tragically gunned down at the hands of a member of the Fort Worth Police Force.  We pray that her family, in particularly her nephew who witnessed the heart break first-hand, be comforted with the limitless love and protection of God, Our Father.

Instances such as the senseless taking of her life by someone charged with the responsibility to protect it, substantiates the need of our Social Justice Committee’s creation and calls for us to urgently address these issues that continue to plague our communities.  We continue to be faced with the reality that too often the lives of Black and Brown people are considered expendable, and our support of Social Justice for our people is truly supporting and standing up for the protection of life.

Eternal rest, grant unto her O Lord
and let perpetual light shine upon her.
May she rest in peace. Amen.

The Knights of Peter Claver Social Justice Committee is tasked with addressing the Order’s Five Pillars of Social Justice: Criminal Justice Reform, Domestic Violence, Racism, Black Lives Matter, and Human Trafficking.
